Yes, I was a big fan of the GNU/Linux User Show and had listened to all of your episodes. Your podcast was really sort of a model to me when coming up with Linux Reality. You and Kelly did great things in that podcast and if I can be half as successful I’ll be a happy camper.

Yeah, I know TUX Magazine is approximately a year old — just got issue 11, in fact — I guess I was thinking in the grand scheme of things, as compared to LJ for example.

I’m freakin’ thrilled that you’re doing a new user thing. Prior to JaK Attack!, Kelly and I produced The GNU/Linux User Show on The Podcast Network which was aimed at new Linux users. We ended up doing 30 shows and covered topics like installing applications, running Windows programs, exploring desktop environments, where to get help (much like you did on show #3), and the like. We also interviewed a lot of the movers and shakers of the community like RMS himself, Nick Petreley, Mark Rais, Marcel Gagne, Aaron Seigo (Siego?), and Robin Miller.

In the end the significant time required to research and produce a new user show became too much to deal with. Kelly and I also discovered that we liked podcasting together and in order to do entire shows together we had to move away from the new Linux user model. Now we do The JaK Attack which as a Linux component (my part!) and a generally non-Linux component (Kelly’s part!)

I always felt kind of bad about not being able to carry on with the new user stuff because there’s such a need for it. I’m glad you’re kind of picking up the slack and carrying on with new user info.

Oh, as a note: I wouldn’t call TUX Magazine that new, would you? I interviewed Nick Petreley last summer when they first published. I guess in the scope of things, that’s kind of new…
