Paying It Forward

In the spirit of the approaching year-end and holiday season, here is a proposal for all Linux Reality listeners.

As discussed in Episode 41, I would like to encourage all Linux Reality listeners to consider making a small donation during the month of December, 2006 to any Linux-related free and open source project, or to any organization that furthers the goals of Linux and free software, such as the Free Software Foundation or the Electronic Frontier Foundation. In return for making any donation of at least US$15, I will send you a free Linux Reality Archive CD. More information about the CD is here. Just email me a copy of your Paypal receipt or other similar record showing your donation, along with your name and mailing address, and I will ship you the CD. Also, please be sure to let me know the name of the organization to which you contributed and how much.

Even if you do not wish to receive the CD, or wish to make a donation less than US$15, please let me know. I intend to start a page here at the LR website listing all the projects and organizations that LR listeners donated to. Do not worry — I will not list your name or donation amount, just the projects.

If you have any questions or wish to notify me of any donations, please email me at linuxreality@gmail.com.

There are many, many important organizations and projects that rely on donations by users and community members. Let’s show our support during this holiday season. And although I am very grateful for the donations that I have received from the wonderful Linux Reality audience, it is my hope and request that during this period, you will make a donation to a free and open source project or organization instead of to the podcast.

Thanks and I hope you will consider making a donation to a project or organization of your choice.

Update (FAQ):

Q: How about donations prior to December?
A: I will be happy to list them on the upcoming “donations” page, but only donations made during December, 2006 will be eligible for the free CD. I have to draw the line somewhere! :)

Q: Is this limited to the US?
A: No. Linux is a worldwide community-driven effort. As such, donations in any currency to any Linux-related free and open source project or organization anywhere in the world are welcomed.
