I was so happy when I saw this podcast. I am finishing up Full Share now and read Quarter Share & Half Share already. Thanks for recommending these. I have enjoyed them so much and look forward to listening to the podcast. Also looking forward to Double Share and future books by Nathan.

I'm so tickled to hear about people who listen to the books. It's still a bit shocking to me.

Yes, thank you Nathan for the books. I went through Quarter and Half Share so fast, I am thinking about listening to them again after I listen to South Coast. I work in technology so it was very interesting to hear how Ishmael booted up the portable, programmed etc. When he was promoted to the deck and was talking about the technology, that was neat. I am glad the books don't have any monsters or other science fiction stuff like that. I hope to finish the Linux reality podcast tonight. Thanks again to both Nathan and Chess. I am also wanting to look for the 2 days before mast book.(right spelling?).

Richard Henry Dana's Two Years Before the Mast is a classic in literature. You can find it at Project GutenbergIt's hard to believe that 24+ hrs of audio can spool by so quickly ... but I've seen it happen myself. It's daunting to know how much work goes into creating just half an hour of content but gratifying that so many people seem to like these stories.

As a longtime Linux user - and quiet evangelist - I really do believe that one of the ways for people to understand the power of the tool is to hear from people who are doing real work with it. I participate in the educational community as well and one of the complaints I hear all the time from teachers is that they just can't afford all the latest and greatest software and - even if they could - they don't know how to use it. Gee. I can solve the "we can't afford it" problem pretty easily with (pick your distro here) and if you've got to learn a package, why not learn a good (free) one that even the poorest schools can afford to install and give out to their students. Sorry - don't get me started But thanks for the feedback.

Anita I don't know if you have listened to Nathan's work or not. But the character through whom we see the story unfold is very community minded. He thinks outside of normal parameters, for the good of "Lois" , which is the ship they travel on. To say that Ish is the epitome of the open source spirit would be an understatement. I think Chess chose very well by having Nathan on and I hope that there will be more of an opportunity to see everyday people, even non-technical people using Linux and letting others in on the secret.

Nathan,
That is great! I am so glad that some LR listeners are checking out your books and posting comments on podiobooks.com. And that doesn't count the dozens of emails I have received from LR listeners who are thoroughly enjoying your work.
Thanks for sharing your stories with us!

Chess,
Thanks for the great interview with Nathan. I'd never heard of Podiobooks before this podcast, but I will be checking it out shortly. Nathan's books sound great, I'll be starting with them.
As a reader and writer, I love the idea of Podiobooks.

And finally I also took the plunge into quarter share, and I must say that I really love it, went through the first 7 chapters today, and I want to donate some money too, but I lost my visa card some days ago, so I have to wait two weeks for a new one :/ So if you consider listening to the books, do, you won't regret
