I'm so tickled that you liked my podiobooks. Thanks for the shout-out on your podcast.

Just for a little extra Linux goodness, I write and do the audio production on my books on an HP Pavillion laptop running Linux. I'm not a KDE (or Gnome) user ... I've been using iceWM for years now and I like it. The information you've got here on KDE sounds intriguiing so I may have to reconsider.

Thanks again.

No kidding?  Wow.  Now I like your books even more!  :-)

Seriously, though, your books are _excellent_ and I highly recommend them.

My favorite part:

...probably do another listener feed back episode, you know, in several weeks. I certainly don't want to get into the habit like certain shows (Security Now) that do them every other week. So,I'm not gonna do that.

It's not that I really mind Listener Feedback that much, but every other week (like a certain podcast hosted by Steve Gibson) gets to be way too often. Every few to several weeks is perfect.

You bumped into Pat V? Even if it is going to be 287 versions of Slackware, before KDE 4 makes it in...  Wink
Seriously, that is brilliant. I am checking the podiobooks out.

@mjjzf: yes, hanging out with Patrick Volkerding was among the highlights of the trip, for sure!

@JHalstead:  Nathan's books are great, aren't they?  I have listened to LOTS of books from podiobooks.com and collectively, his books are in my top 3.  The books are sweet and very engaging, with excellent characters and plotlines.  I really hope they make it to print one day.  For those who have not listened to them yet, start with Quarter Share, then Half Share, then Full Share in that order.  Once you have listened to those, check out South Coast, which is in the same universe but follows different characters in a different setting.

Glad I found out that there was already some conversation about Nathan Lowell's podcastNovels.
What I like most of those pieces of audio is the human nature of the stories. Very engaging, thanks to the real human aspect of the characters. Yes, there's science fiction, technology, and what in movie terms would be called "special effects"  but these are not the center focus. The simple conversations among the characters, together with the believable story plot, makes these books worthwhile, and highly enjoyable.
Starting to read South Coast and already the same spirit of humanity is starting to show. Very promising.
Thank you Mr Lowell; and glad you mention them in your podcast, Chess.

Agreed. I have listened to almost all of Quarter share on my laptop. I'll be buying this fellow; with 1 GB of storage, it will be a bit easier to carry it around. Since I am walking the dog a couple of hours a day, I'll be working my way through this excellent story bit by bit (and byte).

Thanks for the podiobook recommendation, Chess!  And thanks to Nathan Lowell for some outstanding writing and audio presentation!  I'm only 6 episodes into Quarter Share, but I'm loving it.  This is really quality work.  The plot, characters, human interest and even the interlude music are so enjoyable.  I look forward to the entire series and will have my eyes open for the authors name.

I see that a very nice thing about podiobooks.com is that they give a good portion of donations to the authors.  I have often wondered what percent of a book purchase goes to the author.  Anyone know?
