Hi folks - well I'm going to LUGRadio's "Live!" weekend conference in Wolverhampton, England on 7/8 July 2007. Are any other Linux Reality listeners going to be there?? It's very cheap (£5 on the door per day I understand) and they've had speakers such as Mark Shuttleworth/Bill Thompson (from the BBC) in the past, and attendance promises to be good. It would be great to get a group of linuxreality listeners together for a chat/beers etc at the event Also, I'm currently talking to Chess about how we could effectively 'promote' linuxreality to attendees at the conference, and I'll keep you posted on that one Please post below if you're going to be there - I can't be the only one can I?

OK - so here it is. I am going to take some "LinuxReality flyers" (and possibly badges/buttons) along to distribute at the conference (not that I won't mention the podcast at every opportunity anyways, but it would be good to give people something they can take away and maybe give to family and friends etc). I have Chess's permission to do so but neither myself or our glorious leader (TM) have the requisite artistic skills to design something appropriate! So, I would really appreciate it if people could post snazzy flyer design ideas in this thread - incorporating the new logo of course. I was thinking four colours would be best (to keep down printing costs, as I will be paying for these out of my own pocket ) with a design suitable for printing on A5 glossy paper (that is 148 x 210mm, or 5.8 x 8.3 inches) Also, if anyone knows the kind of file format that professional printers prefer, if they could pop something in this thread to advise, that would be most useful. Hope to see some great ideas - Chess of course will have final say on the winning design. I know you guys can come up with something fantastic, there are lots of artists on here

while I would love to go, I don't think my bank account can afford the trip from Canada I would however be interested in getting a copy of whatever you come up with for a design so I can print some off and pass out around town.

Thanks for pointing out this post Chess Get your creative juices going, friends! Otherwise I'll have to do something lol btw I am asking the LUGRadio folks whether it will be OK (which I'm sure it will be) but I wish they'd reply to email enquiries lol

Hey all, first post... go easy on me... I've done quite a few flyers/brochures/posters in the past so i'll try and knock up some LR designs. Most professional printers require at least 300dpi and as little compression as possible on the image (ie; JPGs with 50% quality and low colour GIF's are well out! ) also it's usually best to leave a bleed of about 5mm+. In other words; don't put any important text within about 5mm of the edges! Otherwise it may get the chop!... You might also be better using A6 size? Thats a quarter of an A4 page. Same size as a postcard really... and it'd keep your costs down. For cheap printing, you could try: http://www.theflyerprinters.comI used them a while back for some flyers and they are really cheap. They print their name and url in the corner of your flyer but its tiny, thats what keeps their prices down. Keep up the good work Chess on the podcast, hope all goes well at the LUG Live and i'll get the Gimp out and get some flyer designs going... All the best!Ronnie.

thanks for that Ronnie - btw Chess if you're monitoring this thread do you have the website banner in a high-quality format?? that would be a really useful starting point I'm sure - the existing logo is a great starting point for a flier and we don't want to reinvent the wheel

Ok, i've got two versions of the same idea so far... This one is still unfinished and has space for some blab or an image ; And this one is pretty complete really... I have the high resolution (300dpi) images on my hard drive if you want to use them for anything... PS: Both made entirely in Gimp 2.2

I think it's a mistake to use two funny little penguins on the flyer. Why not use one penguin and a picture of Chess. That would be much better. Other than that it's excellent. You have a talent my friend.

Hmm... I think I would rather use the LR puzzle piece logo or maybe the typefont instead of a picture of me... I will link to the graphics as soon as possible so folks can use 'em.

@ronnie: yeah, well.... I have the SVGs and other stuff at work, so it might be another day or two before I can put them somewhere and link to 'em. In the meantime, some of the images are in the LR logo thread we had back in November when the community was coming up with the ideas. Here is a link to a part of that thread where the puzzle piece SVG is (although I added the shadow underneath) http://www.linuxreality.com/forums/index.php/topic,765.msg5988.html#msg5988And in this next thread, some folks came up with some cool stickers that maybe could be the basis for the flier. I also mention the font type I use and there is a link to it: http://www.linuxreality.com/forums/index.php/topic,915.0.html

Ronnie, it looks great in my opinion, but wouldn't it be better to keep the title logo consistent with the design of that on the website? In other words, all lowercase?
