Episode 50 - One Year Later
« on: February 16, 2007, 03:05:14 PM »

Linux Reality is one year old! It has been one great year and in this episode I take some time to say thanks -- to you, the LR listener, for your support by way of listening to the show, participating in the forums, sending in donations, and providing your email and audio feedback. I pack in lots of listener feedback and questions.

It occurs to me that the guy who was asking about his sound card might try at the Hydrogenaudio forums. That seems to be where all kinds of audio users and developers hang out. If anyone knows anything helpful it may well be there.

I had hang around linux sounds tutorials, I know creative Audigy does work on linux but you need multimedia moudles and some hacks around the version of your audity. Mandriva supports a multimedia kernel with extra modules for this sort of things.

The best way is to check the Linux hardware compatibility guide, linuxquestions.org is one of the biggest repository for hardware.

please look on the sound cards sections.

Once into linux you will find an enourmous library of free software for sound such as Rosegarden, Jackk, Ardour, ReZound, XO Wave, JSynthlab, Audacity, jokosher, etc.

Congrats on the first year Chess! I hope for plenty more.  While I was not entirely a newbie when I  started listening to your show, you certainly reinvigorated my interest in Linux, and I definitely learn  something new with each episode.

I  totally relate to that "it just starts to click" feeling. Lately, I've been booting into Kubuntu more and more, and realizing that I am getting much more comfortable with it. Also, instead of using Linux just to learn or test something, I am just going about my business more and more. Surfing the web, watching my videos, downloading, browsing forums, using IM services... yeah, I am getting pretty comfortable in this wonderful system.

Felicitations for a podcast well done!.

I feel that we are all part of something BIG, when we are involved with Linux and the Open Source community.

I know that in a decade I will be telling my children, " I remember when I used to listen to  LinuxReality to learn about Linux ", and they will look at me like...Oh!, no another little battle story about the beginnings of Linux. Everyone knows about Linux now, Dad!.  Wink

Thanks for the great anniversary show, Chess!  I enjoyed it almost as much as the first one.  Grin

Hearty Congratulations!!

Do you get a reading on how many downloads there are approximately per episode?  I'm wondering how many listen to the podcast compared with the number of members at this forum.

Congratulations on the first year, Chess.

I, too, would be interested to know how many people subscribe as compared to the number of people who participate in the forums. I have been listening for about 6 months now and caught up on all the episodes a few weeks ago, but this is the first time I've been on the forums. I can tell that I'll be checking in here often. Keep up the great show.
